I'm installing a Lopi 1750i into my Majestic ZC fireplace. The chimney is a 8 or 9" metal chimney in a wood chase. Probably a 28 ft chimney and chimney is interior through first and second floors and attic. I plan on installing a 6" flex SS liner as well. The insulation kit adds $250-300 to the install and I'm wondering if it is really necessary. I believe this existing chimney (circa 1982) is rated to 1600 degrees, so will the insulation really provide that much additional performance to my system? I don't see any safety concerns by omitting the insulation.
