We recently purchased a home and they had a Nordic Erik JR-MH (OEMH 4890) stove. It wasn't installed and we wanted to install it and use it. It weighs about a thousand pounds, we cleaned it up. The only issue is that we don't know how to properly and safely use it. There is no manual and we aren't sure the fans work or not and wanted to make sure we wouldn't burn our log home down in the process of starting this beast up again. Does anyone have any information on this stove?

Does the UL label also have a clearance requirement diagram or table on it? That is the guidance for clearance to combustibles. Without this guidance or a manual, the stove will require 36" clearances in all directions. This can be reduced down as low as 12" with proper wall shielding. This thread may have some helpful tips.

Excellent. Meet or exceed those clearance requirements and install a proper flue system and it should be safe to use as long as its integrity is good. The stove should have a good review, inside and out to inspect for any flaws or cracks and the condition of the door and glass gaskets. The latter may need replacement. If the stove then passes muster, it should be safe to install and use when connected properly.

Make a copy of the UL label with clearance requirements and print it out. This may be needed for insurance coverage.
