Burning Hunk

Whitfield P30 working but have an unusual issue: Stove is on a Thermostat and when it calls for heat after the initial burn the igniter does no react. When the default is cleared it works normally. This does not happen if I turn the stat down and then turn it on manually after it cools down. Things that I have changed recently were a new auger motor and a new snap switch (went from 120 to 110 degree). I have to empty the burn pot or I get way too many pellets when it defaults. I am wondering if the snap switch does not open after the initial burn. Any thoughts?

Is your thermostat calling for heat before the stove fans go off?
What fault are you getting?

No fault, just goes into default, older stove does not have that technology. Stove shuts down normally after thermostat is satisfied then when it calls for heat again the igniter does not heat. It goes into default then when you clear the fault it works as usual.

So when the stat calls for heat nothing happens
no fan no pellets just the stat calling for heat

Everything is working, fans, auger as normal it is just the igniter that is not activating. It seems something is not telling it to heat up. When I clear default it ignites and works normally. I'm thinking it may be the snap switch staying closed thereby telling the auger to drop pellets and not telling igniter to heat because it thinks stove is working. Confusing I know but having a hard time to explain. My workaround is to turn stat down after it is satisfied, causing it to cool down before I restart.

What is the default that you clear?

On this stove it just goes into "Default" when something is not working correctly, such as no pellets or no flame for a certain period of time. Everything just shuts down until you press the ON/OFF button on the control panel, it will be flashing when in Default and solid normally. I may switch the snap switch and see if that has any effect.

Its actually having a “no fire” fault. You are having what most of us call a short cycle. Stove has been running shuts down and before it can cycle itself (in t-stat mode) to be ready for the next call for heat. In actuality its calling for heat before it is ready. Happens a-lot during the shoulder seasons.

So when you clear the fault you turn the stove off and on again and it starts
as it should.
I do not think it is a snap switch I am leaning more toward a Thermostat which
in stat mode is the on/off switch and as you say you start it at the stove everything
works as it should. That's where I would start a new thermostat.
But it could also be a short-cycle fault (no Fire)

Good responses, no fire fault sounds like what is happening. Glad it is a normal thing, easy to deal with. Thanks for the input.

Update: Since I changed out the snap switch from 110 to 120 it works like it should, no defaults. The 110 was a good idea with the old auger motor but with the new one putting out more heat I don't think the 110 cutout, which I think is 90, cooled down enough to initiate a new cycle. The 120 probably cuts out around 100, the 10 degrees seems to make a difference. Plus as stated above the cooler weather probably helps.
