.....and I never thought I'd have THIS problem. The white collar of the tree co turned out to be a friend of a friend, and left me every last piece of ash. Well,not the brush or v's or crotches. But LOOK AT THAT PILE! I know my cell camera isnt great so perhaps you cant tell, but the VAST majority of those rounds are 28" long and damn thick! You can see the 8x8 or 10x10 R.R. tie in pic 3 for perspective. Theyre friggen big, and heavy. That,my friends, is alot of wood for me to take home in the back of my Ranger. I can get about 10 or 11 in the bed at a time- but I live a half hour away from work(where this pile is). I made 3 trips after work today, I'll make another on the way home tomorrow, and I guess I can make many more Sunday and Monday when I'm off, except for one thing.......I have no more room. Maybe I'll call my dad and sister and see if I can dump some rounds at their houses until I can free up some space. I guess its a luxury problem. My job wants them out of there by next week so construction can start on a new project. So, not only am I in dire need of a new saw, but I could really use a bigger truck as well. How do guys think the little lady will react to THAT request!?

I wish all the wood I had to worry about was that good. I see you have a Huskee and after cutting them in half I would start splitting either with your maul or your Huskee and you will be done in no time.

Good luck, and with 2 women handing you wood you will be done in half the time. ;-P

Get a couple of friends from work hooked up with you, that have grown up pickups...(just teasing).......and have a "Saturday" event with them. Bribe them real good!

Rent a splitter, (Hydrolic electric or gas powered, NOT a hand crank), or buy a splitter at Lowe's or Home Dippit or some place like that, and get that wood split and stacked the same day. Make a "day" of it, and you'll get-er done!!

Just think! Next year.........look at all that wood you'll have, seasoned and ready!

Sweet. I'd be at UHaul first thing this morning for the biggest trailer they will let you pull behind the ranger. Its a lot cheaper than renting a truck.

I know,I know. I usually scrounge about 4-5 cords a year - but spread out over time. This year, my buddy killed my saw the day before I hit the mother load. :shut: I decided to bite the bullet and get me a Stihl 290 today b/c I just cannot be without a saw right now. Perhaps you guys are on to something with the u-haul trailer. Im gonna call them right now and see whats up.

That is a fantastic find! You don't see many knots and it is all a good size. Splitting that will go extremely fast. Hauling I agree with the big U-Haul trailer.

btw, splitting, if with a splitter, most times you just have to drop the ram into just a few inches of the log and do not have to take the ram all the way down. Splitting with axe or mail is very easy too and one swing usually splits the log. On top of it all, it is darned good wood to burn.

you can rent a 3/4 ton pickup from lowes/home depot for right around 20 for 75 min. I rented one for like 2 hours before for 25-30 bucks. good luck with all that, so much nice heat.

Just go ahead and get it. Apparently, chicks dig trucks more than they do chainsaws. My wife got pissed at me because I spent a lousy $300 on another saw, but when I told her I needed a truck, she just smiled and said, "You need what you need". Which left me looking deeply into her eyes to see if an alien being hadn't taken residence in her body during the night.

Very nice score! Looks like perfect ash. Too bad about all the 28" rounds. Not the best size to cut in half, but 14" rounds of ash should split real easy with a light maul like the Fiskars.

I got the trailer for $25 today at 5 thru tomorrow night. It'll only take 3 trips for the whole load that way. The tree guys balked at the thought of cutting the rounds at 14.75 (imagine that), so I asked them to cut it at 28" so I could just cut them once and load EVERYTHING N/S in my stove next year. Firebox is 21" wide and 15 1/2" deep.

Just one thing I'd add- forks and knots are "keepers" here, even if they have to chainsawed to fit the stove. The dense interlocking fibers make them primo stuff for end-of-day fires. Often, quick partial chainsawing makes them quite splittable. "Waste not, want not."

Good call getting the trailer. I have a few friends with 16' trailers that I can use with my Dodge ram. Saves you time and money. Have fun splitting all that ash, which happens to be my favorite type of wood to split with a maul
