The red, rubbery stuff is Hi Temp silicone, which I hope you got to put the new gasket in with. As for removing the old silicone, all the above mentioned tools will work, in addition to small scrapers, screwdrivers, ice pick. I did my Astoria gasket last year, and used one of those small round wire brushes that go into an electric drill....worked great.twojrts said:I have the old gasket off.
