Hi everyone,

I have a rectangle to round cast iron chimney adapter for my old slammer stove unit. I am looking for ideas on how to fasten the adapter to the stove since there are no mounting holes or brackets. I don’t know if I should weld a bracket or screw directly it into the stove? I don’t mind doing either just looking for options and opinions. Below are pics of the adapter and the stove insert. Thank you very much!
Corey

I’d use self-drilling, hex head Zipscrews. Looks like your flue collar has locations for screws, so it should be pretty simple. You could always predrill the locations…

I drill and tap for 1/4 20 bolts. I havnt had allot of luck with self tappers

Drilling and tapping is an option. It’s not really thick steel maybe around 1/8” thick. I’m assuming some kind of sealant or cement between the stove and the adapter? If so what kind is recommended?

I usually apply self adhesive flat gasket to the bottom of the adapter unless the top is warped then you will need some furnace cement

Ok. Just so I understand does this area need to be airtight or no?
It should be as air tight as possible which is why I use gasket. If you let to much air in there it will hurt your draft.

Yeah that should be fine

Quick question….. if I use the self adhesive flat gasket, I’m still drilling and tapping the holes correct?
Yes that adhesive will be gone after the first fire. It's only there to help keep it in position while assembling
