I would like to know how much wood did you use this year gasification compared to OWB? I used 12 full cords (OWB Woodmaster 440) and down to where I might have to cut one more cord if this weather dosn't warm up a bit. Eric Johnston what did you burn with the new stove?

I would suggest that you consider the source when you get the answer to this. We're talking about someone with 43 cords in his back yard. He keeps his house warmer than my sauna, and even heats his greenhouse so he can grow tropical plants when it's 30 below outside. He's a nice guy anyway, but maybe not middle of the road when it comes to wood consumption.

True. Still thinking of a Garn or some kind of pellet burner, knowing the OWB as we know it will have to be changed in two years and I think there will be a lot of changes. Looking at the options, pellets or firewood.

I have an eko80 that replaced an OWB last year. It is hard to estimate my wood usage as I burn different types, lenghts, and sizes but I feel that I burnt about 40% less wood with my eko. I should get that down to less than 50% now that I have learned how to burn better and burn dryer wood. I'm going to make a major revamp of my storage and delivery system this summer so I think I will drop my losses even more. I'm really sold on gasification, the eko has worked out great and with this forum I've learned alot. I'm still interested in going to a chip gasification boiler when the Danes decide the time is right to enter the US market but untill then I'll stay one jump ahead of the oil man cutting wood.

Leaddog, I am pricing the Eko80 at this time. I am also looking at the Garn 1500/2000. Were you using storage with the Eko or running straight from the boiler. That is a good reduction of fuel compared to the OWB.

I have about 1200gal storageand run it year round as I heat my DHW and hot tub with it. I'm planning on going with 2200 gal this summer as I'm going to put in 4-500gal propare tanks on the outside wall of my house. Still in planning stage but thinks are comming along well. I really like my eko but the garn is a great choice also.

What did you use for storage? What should I expect to pay for propane tanks if that is what you are using? I would consider this the other option to the Garn. If the Eko 80 is ~ $8000, and produces results similar to the Garn, I have about $4500 difference for storage.

My first full heating season cost me about 10 full cord. Thats with no storage and trying to scramble up the learning curve. I anticipate dropping below 10 this coming year.

I can't say what tanks will cost you there. I'm working on a deal to get alot of tanks here that I will be selling out at the $350 to $450 range depending on how things work out and what I have to do with them. they have been promised but I haven't gotten them yet so I'm not saying much untill thinks work out. I do have two alluminum tanks of 460gal each that I will probably get rid of and a couple of stainless ones also as I'm watching out for what ever I can find to make the best and cheapest storage for me that I can.
The eko is a great unit as is the garn. I think it would come down to how much you can do your self, space available and tank cost.

It's nice if you have a basement for the storage tanks. I live next to a creek and my water table is about four feet, that's why I am leaning more towards a Garn. I will say with the price of fuel for the loggers at or over $5 a gallon, I am glad to have locked in at $85 a full cord for this year. I am thinking it is going to be well over the hundred dollar mark for next year.
