How I Bring Wood in the House

Lukem, please be careful. Three weeks ago we had a 51 yo male, who had a similar set up in his garage, accidently fall thru the hole ending up with fatal injuries in his basement. His wife discovered him when he did not come up for dinner. Very sad.

Very handy! My cousin has a similar setup, except that his trapdoor into the basement is in the floor of his garage.

Here is where it ends up. You can see the hole in the ceiling on the back left at the top of the pile. I can fit about 2/3 cord in loosly tossed, or about a cord and a half if i stack it neatly.

It is only a 5 foot drop...and i can't fit thru the hole, so shouldn't be an issue.

Yes, insulated. This is a seperate room from the main basement which is also insulated. Stays cool in the wood room, but not bad.

I used a septic riser and originally a septic lid, but it was too heavy and actually broke. I laminated 3 pieces of 3/4 PT plywood and then put some rigid insulation on the bottom. Coated the ply with roofing compound for leak protection.

Not so much basement as a room right off the basment. Used to hold a pool pump and heater a long time ago.

Gives me some ideas to improve on my method.
I need to find a piece of 10" to 12" PVC pipe, cut a hole, slide it right into the basement wood box.

Well, that's a first for me! Does the cap freeze in the winter? Do you have to plow/shovel a path to the cap and keep the cap free from snow/ice? Cheers!
