This past week has seen a lot of wood smoke generated over the layout of the great room.
I went off on a tangent and again considered if I could shoehorn in a Woodstock Fireview or Keystone, but with the clearances of those stoves there is just not enough space. I actually wrote the folks at Woodstock and offered to assist them with more effective heatshield design, but got no response. If they were to do something about the clearance issue they would sell more stoves for sure in my opinion. Anyway, short of blowing a fuse, I had to conclude that there was just no way that I could get the catalytic soapstone stoves to fit, so black to plan A which favors the Morso 7110.
I mocked up the floor protector and stove clearances today and rearranged the furniture in the great room to get a visual impression of how the install would look and I think it is fine. The floor protector does intrude a little on access to the 3 seater sofa, but I have new hardwood flooring and am not tearing anything up now to install a flush floor protector. This layout does put the stove close to an outside wall, but it becomes a more effective focal point in the room. At some time in the future I woud like to add a cast iron hearth surround to "frame" the stove better. (broken link removed) see the section on cast iron hearths. Very neat stuff and in some cases for a similar price to a hardwood hearth surround....
Any comments ? Any users familiar with the Morso 7110 who would like to comment ? Most stoves had the loading door opening to the right, which doesn't suit me. This one opens to the left. An alternative is the Harman Oakwood, but due to the larger clearances it encroaches substantially into the room. The Morso has tight clearances out of all of the cast iron stoves.
