Hey All: I've been lurking this board for sometime now, and figured it was about time to chime in.
I've bought an Englander 55-PAHL, and am really liking it. For 26 years I have been cutting wood and falling trees. 40lb bags of Pellets are a lot easier to deal with. What I am not putting in my stove right now, I'm using for bedding for the horses.
Presently I'm using the Granulco Soft Wood Pellets out of Quebec. I'm paying $4.99 a bag at Rona, and am pretty happy with the soft wood. I'm wondering on how good they are going to be in the winter when it gets really cold.
I've used 10 bags in the past 3 weeks. I've only ran it on the 1-1 setting once it gets going.
Surprisingly enough since I put the pellet stove in (with a 6-3" adapter hooked up to my existing chimney) my house has stayed amazingly warm. It was 75 degrees in the family room when I shut it off (where the stove is) this morning, and with a good stiff breeze outside, it's still 70 degrees. It's just about 45 degrees right now outside. I don't think the woodstove that I took out was airtight for years, as the updraft in the chimney was something terrible when we put the adapter on.
I'm looking for alternatives in Southern Ontario for Hardwoods. I was at TSC the other day, and they sell the Michigans. Is it just me, or they look terrible. Right on the bag it says "Wood Fibre". Kind of reminds me of Particle Board.
So, any Canadians on here find any good quality pellets? Does anyone use the Pellets that are coming out of St.Mary's?
