I'm trying to install one of these highly recommended Excel Flashings (ICC 6EMFB) on a new 12/12 exposed fastener metal roof and I'm a little confused about where to cut the slot. In the instructions it is shown adjacent to the opening traced through the unit and cut through the roof but in pictures of installed units it seems to be a few inches above the curved top of the flashing. If it matters my slot will have to cross over into the next panel, but not the oval cut out. I realize it would be easier to overlap my panels with shorter pieces below but I don't have extra material for that.
I know some of you have installed many of these, and would appreciate any elaboration you can offer on Excel's instructions. Thanks!

It should be at least 1" above the cone oval that is traced on the roof. The traced oval should be centered onthe centerline of the chimney coming up through the roof.

Thanks and thanks for the pic, that's what I've been seeing and it didn't make any sense to me to cut the slot level with the top of the oval.
I really appreciate the advice!

Per an email I received from ICC "Installers will physically center the flashing over the hole and mark the distance for the slot," which I assume will be the place where the distance across the beveled end of the flashing equals 23"-- the recommended width of the slot. I also assume the roofing metal between the slot and the traced oval will have to be removed, leaving a cut-out like this:

Sorry if this should have been obvious. If this is right let me know! Others doing it for the first time will probably find it helpful.
