Hi,
Finally...took me 10 tries to get this site to pop up. Since it has been years since I have been on this site I thought perhaps it had gone down. Whew, as I need some help.
We have a 12-FPP we have been using for years. It is a great stove.
However, I think I finally figured out why I had an odd smell when using the stove this year, after not having any odors since it was "cured".
We are putting up cultured stone behind the stove and my wife set the torpedo level on top of the stove. Well, she reached for it at one point and missed it, knocking it off the back of the stove down into the air space behind the stove. There is a about a 1" space behind the stove that we cannot seem to get into to. It appears it is welded. There is a spot for the fan to attach but we are on the left side of the location, when looking at the front of the stove. How do we get the level back out? The only way I can see is to try to fish it out with a coat hangar or drill a hole in that plate, since it appears to be just forming a 1" dead air space. And, I also see a pencil compass down in there so I bet that is my smell this year...when the stove gets hot it is cooking the compass, melting the plastic that is, or was, on it. If I have to drill how thick is that steel?
Thanks for the help!
