Harman P43 battery backup

Can anyone recommend a battery backup for my P43? I have a 5,700 watt generator that gets used for our abundance of power outages that runs our house through a transfer switch at the electric meter.

Right now the stove runs plugged into the wall while running off this generator. This generator has less than 6% total harmonic distortion, but I have previously replaced a board and ceramic fuse’s in the past while running on the generator.

Is there a way to keep constant voltage to the stove without dipping down when other appliances are run? Is there a battery backup that will both charge and run the stove at the same time? I’m looking to run the stove for extended periods of time during a power outage, not just shut the stove down.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks so much.

I use AIMS 1250 along with two Hundred Amp Batteries for 12 hours. Also have 7kw Generator, but if you use generator and run the Inverter it's just passing dirty power thru. If 12 hours in not enough invest in little PSW Generator. Honda or such.

PSW, what’s that mean? You talking about running the stove off a small generator like an EU2000? That would be clean power for sure and I’m certain it would run the stove.. I’d rather only use one generator for everything.

Would this be an acceptable power source? Seems like your well versed in the power conversion between clean and dirty currents!

Current generator has less than 6% THD with an AVR. After reading, the inverter generators have pure sine wave currents but still have THD of 3% - 5%. Is that little difference really worth 3k?

To me no. Up to you. What's worst that can happen? How much for Motherboard for stove? Not like your going to run it 100% of the time that way. I just went Inverter/Battery route since we don't get many power outages for long. Even then Inverter has gone up in price. Batteries have shorter life than Generator. But lots easier.

We’re currently on day 6 of a power outage after the central Virginia heavy wet snow. The stove has been running constantly on the generator. I think I paid $100 for the motherboard last time it went out. Still worth it to me to keep our family warm in the winter.. I think I’ll buy a spare to keep on hand and at least consider a small Honda for the stove in the future.

Called Tripp Lite today and they didn’t sound very confident. They have what’s called an APS double conversion unit that is a battery backup and power converter that is “safe” to use while running a generator for $900. This is the same price as a small Honda generator.

So what really kills these stoves circuit boards? If the power grid malfunctions and turns off/on the stove is taking a hit. If the power turns off and I run outside to turn generator on the stoves taking a hit. If I use a battery backup and the power outage lasts longer than 2 hours and generator runs the stove is taking a hit. There doesn’t sound like a bulletproof plan.

No one here uses a generator and their pellet stove for long term power outages?

The first link is the better choice IMO, you can even get by with the same type in a 1000va (SUA1000) if you don't use the igniter (which you shouldn't do on UPS power anyway). The first one is line interactive, so it should clean your generator power for you. The second one says it will, but I have my doubt's since it seems as if it spends too much time switching.

Gives me plenty of time to get get my 2kw sine wave generator up and running, I then plug the UPS into my generator, stove doesn't miss a beat..I've run it 24 hours, I'd have no issue running it long term. Only things I have plugged into this 2kw generator is the stove , my furnace boiler which has a circuit board, basement lights.. Rest of the house runs off my large 5kw generator..

Looks like Costco has sold out of the CybePower CST1500S (same as the one gfreek shows above but with a different button configuration otherwise same specs), so I doubt you'll find one new for the $189 price tag Costco had them for. They can still be had from other retail locations for a bit more money, they may have a different model number depending on the retailer, if I'm not mistaking Best Buy sells them too, just make sure you are getting a pure sine wave unit and not a simulated sine wave unit. As mentioned, this will not allow you to run for hours on end, but it will give you a chance to get the generator up and running. I get it that two generators is a pain, but if your dirty power one is working for you for everything but your stove, a small 1000 watt or 2000 watt inverter type generator will run your stove (1k without using igniter, 2K if you think you want the igniter) and can be had for reasonable money provided you don't need to get a Honda (many lesser known brands are available for about half of the price of a Honda, just read the reviews to see which one you like). I actually purchased a predator 2000 just to run the stove in my workshop with clean power when we are without utility & it works just fine. I don't know if it will outlast my Honda EU3000 for the house stoves, but for the money, I thought I'd give it a try. I do notice all three stoves seem to like the 2 Inverter generator's power better than the whole house unit used for everything else.

A good practice is to install a cheap 10.00 plug in ac volt meter any outlet....in my last house my generac destroyed my carrier ac. Voltage regulator failed and too much voltage... Even with a whole house Gen I shut off breakers that I didn't want to risk damaged.

Maybe charge batteries with Gen and have the batteries run on 12vdc to power unit somehow.

Did you test voltage output?

Ran my old stove and the house for 4 weeks once a few years back
after an ice storm.
We were out for 28 days the stove and the house never lost a beat
24 kw whole house propane fired unit

It was the opposite here - '98 not so bad (heck, didn't even have a wood stove at that time and can't remember it being bad), but '08 was 11 days without power for some main areas and a lot longer in more isolated areas. I think my house was more like 6, and that was becuase we told them they could leave the cables on the ground until they had time to come back to do it right. Had a wood stove to keep the house warm and a small generator to run the fridge, freezer and well pump several times a day.
