Halleluja!!! Found some seasoned wood!

Well I finally found someone who knows what seasoned wood is. Some kind soul sent me to a fella who was happy to sell the last of his truly seasoned wood to me. When I took a reading and found 16% moisture content in the center I about flipped. I have been burning all morning and day and boy what a difference good wood makes! My fire started right up and roared all morning! I reached 400 degrees in no time and had the most gorgeous secondaries to date! God were they pretty. Slowly rolling up and shooting out of the baffles. Almost hypnotically dancing, disappearing and then reappearing like some game of hide and seek. I am hooked! My wife says its my new television.

The baby is supposed to be me! Newbie and all. But when I do finally have a baby I hope he/she can do that!

Ja, happiness is dry wood and a warm hearth. The wood in the shed I cut last Winter will only be burned a year from now.

Good to hear you found some dry wood. That in itself is a miracle at this time of year. Now that you see the difference, you'll never go back to burning newly cut or split wood.

And now that you have next year's supply on hand, what you thought was this year's, why not get one more year on hand. Then if there is oak, you know it will be ready after 3 years. This is perhaps one of the most difficult parts for new wood burners, but must be done if you want it done right and with less problems. Get and keep a 3 year supply on hand and you will be a very happy camper.

As for us, we keep an even greater supply on hand. We are a little older so the way we look at it is that the older folks can have physical problems pop up a little more often and take longer to get over them. So we are in the position so that even if I could not cut and split for a couple years we still have our heating supply on hand. It is better than money in the bank.

I was out in Elk County PA for T-day and I was amazed at how much seasoned wood was for sale. We defenitely don't get that out hear in eastern PA.
