Stopped by Home Depot the other day and found out that they give a 10% discount for all military - prior, active, retired, guard or reserve. All they needed to see was my old military i.d. Not a bad deal, guess it never hurts to ask. Not sure how many here are prior military, but just thought I'd give a heads up.

I think it's great that they both do this, my brothers FIL used his discount to buy his new ariens snowblower a few years back from HD.

I've been to HD and had them tell me they were happy to extend the discount to immediate family. I got ten off my splitter since my pop is a veteran (i've not served). They seemed pretty laid back about the policy, and didn't even require showing a military ID (the honor system seemed fine to them). Perhaps it was the associates I dealt with, or maybe its my local store....... but they were glad to give the military discount. I was unaware Lowes offered it too........ its a great policy that more stores should offer.
You mean to tell me that that miniature laminated copy of my DD-214 that has been in my wallet for 40 years is actually worth something? :roll:

Yup at Lowes they do. I'm a minimalist and my thin ID/wallet is around my neck so as I'm digging out my credit card the cashier on more than 1 occasion noticed my VA ID or ret mil ID...it don't matter they honor it.
America sure appreciates it's military more so than Canada. Wish we got a discount here and there, at the hardware store would be awesome

Home Depot - I called a local store (in Massachusetts) and was told that for this weekend only, the discount is for any military status. On an every day basis, it's only active military or an active Reservist/National Guard member.
Lowes - I called a local store (in Massachusetts) and was told that the discount is for every day, for any status. They *do* want a picture id. (I was told if you only have discharge papers a local VA can give you a picture id but I want to check that out for myself.)

I'd originally heard this from a buddy in the guard, but even though I've been out of active duty for 8 years now I figured I'd give it a try. I do have my I.D. card, so I can't vouch for 214s only, but I went in about a month ago and bought sheet rock screws and fertilizer and got the discount. I asked if this was just a special promotion, and the cashier said it was 10% off 365 days a year. Maybe it's just that whole Minnesota nice thing huh...
This gives me another reason to thank my FIL for his service. He's going with me next time I go to Lowe's.

I asked about it at Home Depot the other day. Kid said sure with a photo ID. I told him cameras hadn't been invented when I was in the Army. He actually looked like he believed that.

I received the 10 percent discount last week with my retired ID card. Didn't know about this until the guy at the register next to me asked for his discount then I asked for mine. A lot of businesses will give the discount, but you have to ask for it...it never hurts to ask. I've even received a 50 percent discount at Papa Johns just by asking about the military discount. The discount depends on the area you are in and the military population that's living there; being a vet is big in my area.
