This stove came with my house (built in '76) and was installed by the original owner. I think it was in the living room fireplace originally, because I also inherited a bunch of iron fireplace surround pieces. But is was eventually moved to the basement, where it still lives. It was used mainly for coal burning by the original owner. There was a makeshift coal bin in the basement when I bought the house - I used up the coal and then got rid of it. It transmitted a fair amount of heat to the first floor when it was going full steam. I have only used it a few times over the years since, most importantly for emergency backup heat when the old heating system had to be replaced one winter (I now have a central high efficiency heat pump). I mostly use it as a handy storage table for dog food now. After taking this picture I realize I should probably clean up the rusty bits and perhaps give it a coat of paint. The cast image on the front door is kind of cool.
