The air control (lever at the bottom that controls inducted air) gets stiff. Especially when hot. Is there a way to clean/lubricate this lever?

I have to whack it with something heavy to move it left or right.
 
I have a Harmon 300i that does the same thing, wish I had some suggestions for you. I will keep my eye on this post so maybe I can learn
