I know that it varies from place so hopefully someone here can help. I have heard very differing opinions about installation and homeowners insurance.

I live in the town of Brookhaven in Suffolk County. My company says I need to have the stove installed by someone certified to install the stove. Yet I I have read about at least half a dozen people who did it themselves. Are they taking a risk...or can it really vary among insurance companies???

Any LIers out there have advice? Thanks

How confident are you with your abilities to install a stove without burning your house down? That should answer your question.

Here in CT I did my install, all that my insurance company wanted is it to be inspected by a building official ie building department..and all is good

Yeah I guess it is different from company to company. Mine is insisting on a certified installer...but then again they are $1000 a year cheaper than other insurance companies.

I have a guy who will help me with it...but just doesn't have the certification in NY. Thanks guys.

If you have a signed off building permit inspection how does the insurance wienie know who installed it?

My guess is that BrotherBart doesn't work for State Farm :-) :-)
