Hey all, I recently bought a new property with a shop that had a wood stove that was disconnected and moved but looked like it had been in use. It’s an older fisher that does have heat shield around the back and sides. They welded on legs to get it 18” off the ground as well. They had a couple sections of double wall and majority single wall pipe for the 20 foot chimney that they also left behind. The chimney is only 14” off the back wall which was insulation and poly film when I moved in. I installed osb behind the chimney and am in the process of installing a heat shield.

I have some 22 gauge bare steel roofing panels I was going to install with trailer stake pockets as wall spacers. Puts it about 1”7/8 off the wall. I have the bottom supported with sideways cinder blocks for airflow. Is there anything I’m missing? Or does anyone have better ideas for a bottom support? I don’t love the cinder blocks.

Heat shield needs to be raised an inch off bottom, it can set on spacers. This allows cool air intake at bottom for heated air to rise up and out the open top. Spaced with non-combustible spacers 1 inch from combustible wall, with no wall spacer’s directly behind stove or pipe.

That height should have double wall connector pipe inside to prevent excessive cooling as exhaust gases rise. That has a reduced 6 inch clearance to combustibles compared to 18 required for single wall. An approved type shield as described above allows 6 inch clearance to single wall pipe.

This is a Fireplace Insert made for installation in a masonry fireplace only.

18 inch firebox height is for Canadian requirements in a garage.

Your state requires all solid fuel appliances being installed to be EPA Compliant, so there is nothing legal about this installation.
