Looking at a fisher fireplace for sale near me that has an insert. I am looking for a free standing fireplace.
Can the inserts be removed to make this a free standing model? Don't want to buy it if it is not something that can be done.
Thanks!

Not legally, but many do. That's what a double door Fisher Stove was made for. Open door burning with screen in place for fire viewing or glass doors.
The manual calls for installation on non-combustible hearth, but in basements and utility buildings many set them up on blocks if they don't care about looks. They take longer wood and give a longer burn time.

If you had to choose between this fisher and removing the insert or a double door huntsman. Would the huntsman be the better choice? This is going in a 30x40 metal building.

They will both work about the same. What will the building be used for?

The wife thinks it will be for projects and restorations ect...
In reality it will probably be for drinking beer and hanging out with friends.

If there will be vehicles gasoline or any other combustible vapors present it is against code to install a solid fuel burner.
