I remembered I had some of this Napa glass cleaner tonight around after running out of "Speedy white" brand. The speed white worked half way decent but never really did the trick on real "Blaze king" creosote, plus it's expensive. Its always worked well on glass in the past and I remember the guy at Napa told me once that it's a great cleaner for everything. I decided to give it a try and I couldn't believe how easily it removed creosote with ease. There is some real nasty stuff in the two corners that need scraping but overall I'd recommend it to anyone over any other product for cleaning your stoves glass if you have a Napa store nearby. It's about $5/can.

I wonder what the ingredients are and how these might affect the cat.

Given the (and I quote @BKVP) "religious removal" of tiny tarp fibers off of splits, what does residue of this stuff do.

I just burn on high for long enough to make things look ok.

After I use the cleaner I do hit it with glass cleaner as it leaves the glass slightly cloudy. I imagine by the time the stove is hot enough to engage the cat whatever film is left has long burnt off.

With a BK one still has to run high first anyway as tarry stuff can't easily be taken off with ashes on a wet paper. If you're running high, then I'd just do that long enough to clean off the glass.

I always use ash but I do not have much on my glass because I do not run the stove low. There is usually only a small spot on the hinge side of the glass as I need a new gasket.
