Filling up my new woodshed.... WARNING Manly content!

Well I have been working like a dog the past three days filling up my new woodshed. I dropped 4 big dead oaks on my ranch and skidded them to my splitting yard with my tractor and chains. I do not own a splitter, so I rented one, which turned out to be rather sorry. Anyway after splitting and stacking all weekend I have pretty much filled up my shed and I'll be good to go next year. I hope I have enough seasoned wood from last year to carry me through this winter. I may have to cheat a little though.

I dunno. I've never skidded logs, but I have pulled trees down, or to the processing area with the truck & some straps, does that count?


FlyingV ... nice shed !! Reminds me of a run - in My original response after looking at the pics was "so where is the manly content " part of this thread ;-P

Your stacks are so pretty that they aren't even that manly anymore. Your tractor must be pretty manky though. Those are some big logs you skidded. Post tractor pics for more manliness.

The pictures does make the shed look small. Pics were taken from my phone. The post are around 12 inches in diameter. I'll dig up a tractor pic. I have a BIG tractor.....

What was that sorry splitter? Why was it bad?

The splitter was a rental and was just plain worn out. The wedge guide was loose constantly because the bolts were worn and so the ram would push off to one side. The piston rod was bent because of this also. The shoe plate was nearly 1 1/2" thick steel yet some dumb butt managed to bend it out almost 1/2 inch anyway. LOL Also the shoe plate was smooth and shiny with no gripper to hold the wood in place and so you had to be on the lookout for popups when you started splitting and the bent out shoe probably contributed to that happy phenomenon also. It cost me 82 dollars a day which was kinda steep for my opinion, especially for the sorry shape it was in. I was not the one who picked it up at the rental place, or I would have turned it down. It was all that I had, so I used and abused it anyway. I can't really justify the cost of a new one, as I don't use one but once a year and Lord knows that I don't need another engine on the ranch to maintain.

I can certainly understand now why you said it was junk! And what is just one more motor to maintain?! lol Like you need more huh.
