Dem west coasters do tings a wittle bit diff though!!

yes they do cant bring myself to try that under cut on the notch

that is pretty sick. those trees are really big. ta think i am nervous under a tree 18" at the trunk. i'm such a woos..

Yes, there would be a lot of firewood in one of those things!

I've never tried that particular notch myself but might try it sometime. I watched a tree trimmer one time make that notch but he cut the angle first and then the horizontal.

Yea they do grow big out here. I usually have to cut 3'+ dia cedar cause there isnt much smaller stuff available. You do ge alot of wood out of one 1 1/2 to 2 cords. The groan is a 150' tall tree takes quite awhile to limb. I guess you take what you can get.

Looks like 2nd growth fir/hemlock, music yucks. A buddy in OR has some
land with genuine old growth west coast fir left on it. He sold one tree in the '80's.
for more than he paid for the whole parcel. His logger/sawyer ran a big ol stihl with
a 5' bar and the notch was in 3 pieces...6 loads to a tree...not much old stuff left around MM

You make the bottom cut 1st for aiming reasons and so it don't rip the saw outta yur hand when that big phat notch falls out.

That music does suck, that band (or noise makers)opened for a metallica concert I was at recently. Metallica was awesome but they sucked bad!

That's the way I was taught and pretty much how I do it. Never on that BIG a tree though.

Nice thing about dropping a tree that size is there is just no way in hell its gonna get hung up on another tree halfway down.

i'll second that... i hate felling in the woods.. always seem to get leaners

That reminds me need a bigger saw , but not a 5' bar maybe 2' to 2.5' should be fine. I think I'll pass on the cutting trees in the woods on fire part of the deal.

Kinda puts a whole new term to the word "FIREWOOD"
