Who do you believe will have the most accurate overall winter prediction?

The Almanac says:

"We feel the middle part of the country's really going to be cold — very, very cold, very, very frigid, with a lot of snow". "On the East and West coasts, it's going to be a little milder. Not to say it's going to be a mild short winter, but it'll be milder compared to the middle of the country."

This winter, the 200-page publication says it'll be cool and snowy in the Northeast, bitterly cold and dry in the Great Lakes states, and cold and snowy across the North Central states.

It says the Northwest will be cool with average precipitation, the Southwest will be mild and dry, the South Central states will be cold and wet, and the Southeast will be mild and dry.

The almanac's forecast, however, is at odds with the National Weather Service, which is calling for warmer-than-normal temperatures across much of the country because of an El Nino system in the tropical Pacific Ocean


OK everybody, who do you believe? Personally, I'll wait until I see my first wooly-bear caterpiller. ;-P
 
Well, no one can predict weather accurately enough for me, so I'll just believe it when I see it.

(Now that I've got a plow on my truck, I want LOTS of snow!)

Other - Look out the window; its the only way to know for sure.

PS- Was that the same Famer's almanac that predicted the month of June to be BELOW average rainfall? (the month it rained 26 of 30 days and we smashed all-time rainfall records)

Well, from what I know, a narrow orange band means a hard winter, and a wide orange band means a mild winter, or so some old time farmers thought.

Hey, based on what I hear from the weather "experts" on TV and computer, the wooly bear is just about as accurate. :)

A new toy is fun, but after a few storms you will be sick of it! So careful what you wish for. I was wishing it was going to be an early winter. But I have come to my sense's and hope the summer drag's till xmas time! Just enough snow for the kids and back to spring for me! hehe.

All hail the wolly-bugger. Cute little critter to. Till he poops on you hand.

now that you have a new plow, it will be a mild winter this year ;-)
 
We have had mostly N and E winds allspring and summer.More than I have ever seen. If this pattern carries into winter it will be bitter cold with little snow . I wood tend to believe that , that prediction for my area is spot on IF the present pattern continues.
 
I stick with NOAA. I don't trust those wing of bat and eye of newt methods very much.

Looking at HDD year after year, I don't think it matters much... they all are really close when you look at the entire season as a whole compared to historical data.
 
Shortstuff, you shoulda waited until next spring to buy that plow, gonna be a lot of almost new ones for sale then.
My magic chrystal balls said warm, very little snow for the northeast, so I voted "other".
That's my story. I'm stickin' with it.
Still gotta get two more ton of pellets just in case my balls are lyin'

Mother Nature is like any other woman. She does what she dam well pleases. :lol:

So you've got crystal balls that talk, and you need 2 more tons??? You sound like a weird pellet pig in the making. ;-P
 
Look at that....the results so far indicate that the same number of people believe the Wooly Bear as they do the Farmers Almanac and almost as much as the NWS.....Too funny! :lol:
 
Living in the Northeast I would like to believe the Farmer's Almanac. But I picked "other" because the deer around here seem to be packing on quite the winter coats and it's only early September.
 
As a weather forecaster for many years I can give you a guaranteed 100% accurate forecast for New England . And especially the Plaistow New Hampshire area. It will be Light followed by Dark throughout the upcoming winter. And you can take that to the bank

Good luck with your plow truck. I had one for several years, but also had too many winter friends, (except when the truck was in for repair) Now retired, I sold the plow truck and bought a huge snow blower that has steering. Just walk behind it and remember which control does what. Last year, it blew thick slush at least 20 feet. Best part was I got to drive a newer truck with no plow sticking out in front, and I didn't have to go out during storms. As for predicting the weather, you get what you get and deal with it. Just the way it is and always has been.
 
I voted other.....My wife said "I think we are going to have a cold winter, I think you should go get an extra ton of pellets." So there you go, it is going to be a cold winter.
 
I voted "other" ... It said the Southwest would be "mild" ... this part of the SW is fracking hot and will prolly stay fracking hot much too long and get fracking hot again much too early in the springtime. Farking hot is NOT mild.

After last winter and hoping for a good summer it's a little discouraging. Considering the weather pattern so far for the Northeast it's not much of a stretch to think we might have a cold winter with a lot of snow. Hoping for the best I vote for the NWS and stocked 3 tons of pellets just in case :)
