Looking at the f500 Oslo manual and unsure of what the required rear clearance to an unprotected wall with double wall chimney. I currently do not have the jotul rear heat shield.

You would think the combination of double wall pipe and no shield would be listed on the manual.

F500 Oslo rear clearance

I read, it says 6inch to the rear is with rear shield and double wall pipe. The stove needs to be 18 inches with-out the stove heat shield. Unless I'm missing something. Mine has a, stove and single wall heat shields. Shields were needed because the stove is not square with the walls. Because of the corner install, the issue became the rear side corner. I ended up with 14" there, and it works perfect at that distance. The side door opens and swings past the wall. all the way to the rear of the stove.

Do I need to go all the way out to 18 inches between the wall and the stove (perpendicular, not a corner install) with double wall pipe and not heat shield ?
Yes if the stove has no heat shield it needs 18"

No, there will be no gain in additional clearance if your using double wall pipe with no rear heat shield on the back of the stove, since one piece of the puzzle out weighs the other contributing factor, just like a marriage when filling taxes, you need both to get the reduction, one or the other wont get you there.

Haha rear heat shield and single wall gives you 10 inch clearance. The heat shield must be the wife in this marriage
Yes but the single wall pipe still needs 18" so it you are venting vertical you can't go down to 10" on the stove anyway

I saw that, wondered how. What I've understood, single wall needed 18" clearance. (Edit I now see Bholler explanation. It seams like 10" could get unsafe installations. )

My stove has 18" to the back to the wall in the center. But because of the corner it's not 18" for all the back. For that reason I thought I could get away with single wall, but the cathedral ceiling got closer. So I have rear heat shields on the single wall pipe. I like the heat off the single wall. I have no issues with the chimney getting to cool above.

Don't fear having to use the rear guard. It's well made it can't be seen from any angle, particular in my corner install.
