Hello, I bought my epi22-1 insert this fall, in replacement of my masonry fireplace. So first time using that kind of fireplace and struggle with it a little bit and I need some advice. Sometime the fire still very active even with the air control all the way down and ometime it burn very slowly. Dont know why sometime i cannot lower it down down. There is something im doing it wrong( probably but what?)

Like on this picture, the air control is all the way down and look like that. I feel the wood burn too fast. And if its matter , I may have a negative pressure problem especially in the basement (where the fireplace is located).

And like I said sometime it burn slowly and nice, so i dont have this "problem" all the time.

For this fireplace can i run the fan higher or its better to run the fan lower?

Thanks!

Negative pressure would not lead to Burning too high.

The variability may be because of variable wood moisture content. Wetter wood burns slower.

Drier wood burns faster. For this try turning down the air much sooner, but not in one step. Start with the first of multiple steps much sooner than you do now.

What is your chimney height above the insert? Is it lined and insulated? Inside the home or outside?
Any fans going on the home (bathroom, kitchen) when it burns slow?

I have just noticed this gap in the door seal. Could it be the problem and air got thru this?

If yes what would be the best way to repair this?

Yes a leaking seal does es result in fires that are burning too strongly, uncontrollable.
The best way is to find out if you can adjust the hinges to make a tighter seal, or find out what size gasket it needs and replace that.
