I have the 30 in the basement and the 13 in the living room. Both are putting out incredible heat. Both stoves thrive in extreme cold spells.
Tonight I let it crank a bit and the 30 is putting out so much heat that when I opened the door and walked by my pants singed. Had to back off and cool off. Just got a 12 hr burn last night by putting in 2 large rounds that were extra dry plus several Eco Bricks ( I'm starting to really appreciate them ). Last night after getting it roaring I shut it down to where the tip of the silver spring handle was even with the lip edge. It cruised all night and when I got up this am i checked it and saw that I did not need to add any wood. I let it burn for another 4 hours until I had room for more big rounds.
The 13 optimizes a bit different for me than the 30. I just fill it about 2/3 full and let it burn down to almost empty before refilling it.
Of course the biggest factor this year is *very* dry wood and starting last week have been using ECO-Bricks to allow me to burn clean with less air.
Wish I had a BK or some other good CAT stove to compare to but it seems that when the temps are really cold these pipe stoves are hard to beat.
I've found a happy groove.
