Many fireplace manufacturers recommend that only ammonia-free cleaners be used on pyroceramic glass.

Wet rag and some ash is my go to. Works like a charm.

ammonia can etch your glass. I.e. make it hazy.
I would not repeat doing this.

Ive heard of using ash to clean silver jewelery, but not glass. If it works, use it I say. My stove has no glass so Im of no real help, lol.
