So, the cats caught a few mice today. VERY proud of themselves. After making sure they were good and dead, I chucked them in the fire. Interesting (a bit ghoulish, I admit), but I watched them consume (tails are kinda cool). Any thoughts?
Oh no . . . never burn up mice in a woodstove . . . that leads to creosote . . . and baldness . . . and fat guts . . . oh, wait a minute . . . I got confused . . . it's burning pine that causes creosote, baldness and fat guts . . . guess mice are OK to burn up.
When you tossed them in the stove, did the cat try to chase it? I hear those cat stoves are all the rage these days. Might be a cheap way to try one out.
What's the best way to keep them critters outta the house? We discovered a mouse nest 4 in. deep X 4' X 2' under the kitchen sink cabinets in the house we are moving into. It was quite a fluffy mansion of spent insulation and whatever. Even contained an old bread sack dated from 1984.
:gulp:
Would burning a mouse carcass in the stove warn the others to stay away?
No! for that to work, you have to tie a noose around their little necks and hang them from a small platform so the rest of the mouse community can walk past it for a couple of days.
Sorry Northwinds, I didn't log a burn time. Next time, and there will be a next time...oh yes..BWAHAHAHAHA! ( as an aside- while in the midst of the coal bed, the tails went RED-HOT, and positively re-animated! I know- ghoulish)
A hunting buddy of mine used to throw all the bones in his stove after we were done cutting up the deer. I dont know about creosote but boy did that place get hot!
