Someone asked me today if a direct vent wall exhaust had to be located a specified distance from a window. I did not have a clue. Does it?
 
All units have a specified distance from windows, doors, corners, etc.
All are different.
You need to refer to the manual for the particular unit you want to install.
 
and not under any kind of overhang like a closet build out or similar.
 
Usually with permanently closed windows, the clearance is a recommendation to prevent condensation. Any operable window clearance may vary, based on the power (BTU) of the appliance.
