I justed received quote for wood pellets and here in Vermont they are still very high near or at $300 per ton. I will probbaly pre-pay for oil as the cost of pellets is much higher than using oil unless the pellet cost get much lower in the next month or so. What was a good deal a few years ago is now higher than many ofther forms of fuel.

Our current price is 309.00 a ton, My stove guy said it should drop to 250.00 in April.....Will see....

I am not sure what part of VT you are in, but VT Pellet Stoves in Colchester had Boreal Pellets in stock for $235 per ton this past weekend.

Yes, its looking like Pellets are not so advantageous on a per-BTU cost basis compared to conventional heat sources. My biggest concern is that alternatives in general will take another back seat as we get further hooked on conventional sources. If the industry can stay competitive during this downturn they will emerge as a truly viable alternative. Sometimes the true test of an industry is in the tough times.

I just finished burning five tons of these pellets, and while they may not be the best quality, they heated my home very nicely this winter. Vermont Pellet Stoves are great to deal with as I don't know of any other dealer in my area that will deliver; let alone hand stack the bags in a place of your choosing. It is well worth their $25 ton charge for that service in my opinion. As much as I like pellet heat, If I had to haul my pellets, I would give up pellets in a hurry.
