Free hardwood. Make sure you're licensed, bonded and insured.
Oh, and you've got to be a contractor, too. No civilians.

lol I am sure they will be a line at his front door!

Poison ivy maybe as well?

I saw one yestarday, and of course cannot find the link today, someone was giving away a free pile of leaves

I chit you not, he actually thought someone would have a use for leaves

Hey ColdNH, dDn't laugh. At my previous residence, people used to come by and pick up bag loads of leaves to use for mulch on their farms. I guess there is a use for everything.

Compost. (free garden & plant food)
Like we on this site like trees to make firewood, on the garden sites we like leaves (by the truck loads) to make compost.
We pile them up, let them break down into rich organic material to feed our gardens. No waste to a tree :) Somebody will take the leaves.
Just FYI

Sure, I'll do a $1000 job for $200 worth of firewood. Sounds like a great deal. Now, maybe you can find someone to replace the motor in your car in exchange for the scrap metal...

Here we go this one is in response to a guys" free firewood you must take all brush and cleanup" all junk tree's good firewood

Ohhh, Ohhhh, pick me, pick me. I want to work and take on additional liability and in the return just earn a bunch of work! We had a guy by me post something similiar. He had a 500k house and responded to my free firewood add. His email showed he was and attorney. I emailed him back, seriously? You think someone is dumb enough to do it and do it FOR and attorney? I told him have the tree co take it down and don't pay them 500 to remove it. I will remove the good wood for 450 :-) Darn it if he did not take me up on my offer :-)

Next town over collects leaves from the curb (homeowners just blow them to the curb - no bags).
You can be fined for taking what the town considers their property.
Every resident is allowed two bushels of compost in the Spring. (by such and such a date or forfeit)
Gardeners are scrounging like wood burners scrounge for wood.

I use leaves for mulch and compost.
I get mine, two of my neighbors and my sister's house every Fall.
I could use more, but I'm not going collectiing them.

in my area all the free wood is twigs, willow, or trees in very risky spots to cut down...
some people amaze me that they want you to be insured, a contractor, and not be paid for the liability.
i suppose any time someone cuts a tree on someone elses property they are assuming a certain amount of liability though.
i have never cut a tree on someone elses land, nor will i ever without them signing a release form, releasing me from all and any liability.
i also will never cut a tree by someone elses home.
the risk of damaging a couple hundred thousand dollar home vs 100$ worth of wood, just is not worth the risk

I understand people use leave's and clippings for compost, just never in a million years thought someone would go through the hassel of picking up a pile from someones yard like we do for free wood.

I have lots of leaves, think if I bring them to MS I can sell them ? What's a cord of leaves go for and is that natural of mulched ? ;-P
I know no one around here is going to buy them although I have heard of people buying acorns for the squirrels.

You can have my acorns, and my squirrels for that matter. Cute rats is all they are. :-)

Mercer Island is a very expensive suburb of Seattle. I think these folks are a little out of touch with the world of work...

I can't find the link but there was a CL post in the Houston area for free pine. The guy was clearing his land for a house. He said you could cut down all the pines you wanted. A few acres. You had to removed the entire tree, tops, trimmings and all. PLUS, you had to removed the stump AND THE ROOTS!!!. He said he knew that he could sell the wood but didn't want to hassle with it. He just wanted it gone. I'm guessing it's still there.
