We just moved into a home that has had a wood stove in for about ten years. We noticed that air flow wasn't great and upon speaking to someone at a store they said that there is a cover plate behind the area where the ash pan is. It was/is supposed to be removed upon installation. Sure enough it is still on and there is even a sign on it that says to remove for room air. How to I get it off? It seems as though I would 'punch' it inwards but it looks as though it is attached (maybe soldered) slightly at the top and bottom of the circle. I don't want to go bashing it with a hammer. What is the best way to remove this plate? Picture attached.

Just to be sure no bad info is given, can you say what stove you have and whether or not its equipped w/ an outdoor air kit (OAK)? Pics are welcome.

Welcome to the forum country_livin,
I would use a thin flat head screw driver and tap it at the 3 o'clock position on the outer rim of the circle. As you get it between the circle and the panel twist the blade to open up a bit of a slit. That should cause the circle at the 9 o'clock position to start to pivot outward. Once you get the edge of the circle out far enough to grip with some pliers you should be able to pull on it outward and then by bending it back and forth those two small tabs holding it in place with eventually break free. Good luck.
