Well I never thought it would happen. The pellet shortage hit WNY. NO ONE has pellets. I've called everywhere. Well I managed to walk in to a tractor supply as they were getting a delivery(17 tons). They were Country Pride Premium Pellets and I snatched a ton for $300 to top off the 4 I have in the garage. I still need 1 more to get me through the year. Anyone have any experience with these? They have pine trees on the bag, but do not say if they ar hard or soft. They smell like pine. Anyone burn these? Bag says theyre from Idaho

From a Google search:

Atlas Wood Pellets: Atlas, Northwest Pride, Country Pride (Softwood)
Atlas is a family owned energy company who has been in operation for more than 20 years. Their long history in the industry allows for production of an excellent product. Atlas pellets are produced from mill by-products which are screened, sized and densified to insure an outstanding burn. Atlas is happy to report ash content of less than 0.3% and BTU output of 8400 or greater!

Do they have the pellet Fuel institute stamp on them? In general, if their listed as premium, they shouldn't be too bad. Burn some and let us all know!

Oh, and BTW, with 5 tons and a possible 6th coming, you might be eligible to be in the Pellet Pig Club...

There is no pfi stamp on them, but they say "exceeds pfi standards". Very little dust in the bag and they are much lighter in color than everything else I have. They smell so damn good. I put 10 bags in our enclosed breezeway and it smells great in there.

Well, then like I said, burn them for a while, and report back to the forum on your thoughts. From what i read about them, they should be good pellets.

Yes, I agree on the smell. I have a ton of Lignetics softwood in the basement, and it never smelled so good!

EDIT: Are you located anywhere near Westfield? There is a stove dealer on this site occasionally named slink, and he runs a stove shop. Last time I saw him on here, he had pellets, although they were expensive.

I just so happened to walk in the local Tractor Supply in Lockport, NY last night and picked up one ton of pellets making it my 5th ton for the year. They were also Country Pride. I have mixed them in with my Instant Heat and I must say I like the Country Pride pellets. They small great. The guy told me they were hardwood, but I doubted that since there are pine trees on the bag. They seem to give off good heat although my insert is on 3 and all seems well. I wish they had more because I would gladly get rid of the instantheat pellets I have they keep getting lodged in the auger. Let me know how they work for you.

I burned through 4 bags so far. Slightly below average heat and very little ash. I have to push my damper way in to get a nice flame. With the shortage happening I was glad to get anything. They definitely don't burn as hot as the lignetics, allegany or energex. I liked them enough to go back the next day and get another ton. The second batch was labeled country pine. The pellets look different than the country pride. I have now completed my collection of 6 tons for the season. Total price for all 6 was just under 1500 bucks. Not too bad.

I haven't tried that brand of pellets yet. We are out of pellets here as well. Have been for a month or two. Fortunately I was able to pick up 4 ton of Dry Creek pellets from Agway over the summer, and I hope that I can find a ton of something before the end of the season. I just bought this stove this year, not too familiar with what is good and bad for pellets. Not even sure how much I will need for the season. I have found that I can mix a not so good pellet with a better one. We were able to get a few bags of Canadian pellet which isn't that good, and I mix it with Dry Creek, so far seems to work. Anyone out there have any replies on Dry Creek pellets?

I had 5 bags of Canadian pellets that came with the stove. They burned well but had a lot of ash. Now, I'm burning Lignetics which seem to burn hotter and have a lot less ash. I know people who use dry creek and they love them. I couldn't find any when I was looking for pellets and bought the lignetics (the only pellets I could find at the time) which turned out to be a good thing. I've heard rumors though that New York State is not going to allow pellets sold in the state that were not manufactured in the state. Anyone else hear this?

No, I haven't heard that. But I have heard that locally here in the lower Adirondacks a pellet factory is going in. I was told that they are not going to sell these pellets here in NYS but are going to supply to other states. Doesn't make sense, like everything else.

After 15 bags, the country pride pellets are just ok. They clinker a bit more than other pellets I have and definitely burn cooler than the hardwoods I have. I'm guessin the big e likes hardwood pellets better which works out well considering that's mainly what's available in NY. Overall they are ok, but for the $300/ton I paid, I should have purchased 2 more ton of hardwood in June for $210. Oh well, live and learn. The smell is intoxicating though...

Yeah, I've burned Lignetics, NEWP, and a few bags of Freedom Fuel and so far the Lignetics are hands down THE BEST!

You have 6 tons of pellets???? Sounds like another candidate for membership into the Pellet Pig Club! OINK OINK
