Hi folks, I’ve been running a GM 60 for the last two winters and while it’s been quite a learning curve with some tricky wrinkles, I’m loving it overall. I’m at the point where I want to get more dialed in on efficiency, especially to work towards longer overnight burns.

Have been reading lots of threads and learning a ton; seems the next step is to get a more precise thermometer so I can see what’s going on more clearly than the thermometer that came with the stove shows. I realize a digital one is most recommended but I’d prefer an analog one, and when I went to buy the Condar Fluegard that I’ve seen recommended on this forum a bunch, I saw that Condar also sells catalytic probe thermometers. Searched and couldn’t find much info about them other than on the Condar site.

Is there a reason to get the standard FlueGard rather than the catalytic probe? It sounds like the main difference is that the catalytic probe reads closer to the catalyst, presumably more accurately reflecting the temp there. I’m just hesitant because I haven’t seen much discussion of it vs lots of discussion about the FlueGard. Thanks for any insight!

I think they are the same but for the range colors on the dial.
