I have been using pellet stoves for over twenty years. Two years ago switched to Comfortbilt pellet insert. Last week we came home to smoke filled house with fire alarms blaring. The pellets in the stove storage bin was set on fire. Fire department had to come to handle situation.

Has anyone experienced this before? Looking for opinions on what to do with manufacturer.

TIA,

Gary

In 99% of hopper fires it is caused by poor maintenance
If the stove is dirty (ash-filled) which causes poor combustion
(Lack of air) in the burn pot allowing the pellets to build up into
the drop shoot until it is full and the auger tube is full the fire
burns its way into the hopper. In the 23 years I have been involved
with pellet stoves (Enviro) I have seen 2 hopper fires both caused
by poor maintenance.
As with all heating appliances maintenance is king
