Burning Hunk

Trying to figure out how this happened, stove is burning cleaner than it has in many years. Usually after a few hours the glass is black, have to clean it every couple of bags burned. Had to replace auger motor, went to a 110 degree snap switch instead of fire-eye, cleaned stove components/motors. Other than those things nothing different. Any ideas why it would be burning so clean? Not a problem just not used to good things happening with appliances. Stove is a 30 years old Whitfield Profile 30.

More combustion air means fire burns hotter and cleaner

I deep clean stove every year but this year I really cleaned the motors and chimney. Took special care to scrap off residue on the blades of the fans, etc. That may have aided the efficiency and I think the auger motor was going out for a while, strange things kept happening with the feed, so a new auger with a constant feed might have done something positive.
Started looking at new stoves but I really like my Whitfield. Local store has Lopi and Enviro which look like good stoves.

If you like what you have and it works for you I see no reason to upgrade
I have a 22-year analog Envrio which has served me well and an Enviro Max in my shop
I like the new stoves but see too many with boards that the Magic smoke has left
They say a CLEAN STOVE IS A HAPPY STOVE so keep it clean and it will keep you warm

I also have a Whitfield stove, the Quest model. I have found the stove works best with a high quality of pellets. Some stoves will burn anything, but not the Quest.

Did you change the brand of pellets you are burning? Note some pellets will change year to year.

Very limited in pellet brands in our area. We have used Heartland for 35+ years, they are premium. Have tried other brands when available but always go back to Heartland. So far it seems the new auger motor has improved the burn, it must be dumping more fuel. The old one was the original, 25+ years.

I would think after 25 years the auger motor was slower than first installed. So with a new auger motor the RPM could be different and feeding more pellets. If that is the case you would need to either adjust the pellet feed downward or air supply upward.

Definitely dropping more pellets, glass is clean and fire is warm, working better than it has in years. Spent $70 on a US made motor instead of $7,000 for a new stove. Simple install so well worth fixing. Thanks for the input.
