I recently bought an Intrepid 2 and I am installing it in an old fireplace. I have removed some of the flue damper and will be dropping down a ss liner in the next week with the help of my brother.

My question is when I connect the T snout connection to the actual stove can I use high temp silicone between the stove and the connector? I was going to use high temp silicone to seal the connector to the liner but have read I should use stove cement for the snout to the stove ? Is that the same stuff as gasket cement? Any clarification would appreciated.

Silicone is not rated for the high temps seen on the flue and liner. Normally, no cement is needed but use furnace cement if desired. It will probably break up and fall off after a season, but no harm.

Silicone will really stink too (a long time) if erroneously used on wood stove piping connections- do as BG suggested, your nose will thank you.
