I have a Majestic BR series zero clearance wood burning fireplace which was installed in 2004. After a chimney fire, I had several fireplace specialists come out to look at my fireplace and make recommendations on what needed to be done to make my unit safe for burning again. Two of the contractors want to replace everything (fireplace, chimney and cap) and a third says he does not feel that is necessary. He wants to get inside the chimney chase and inspect it but he feels that the problem is the lack of a chimney cooling air kit and also a cap which is too restrictive (although the cap I have is what Majestic specifies).

I'm confused buy the differing opinions as I just don't know enough about this. I'd appreciate hearing from pro's who are familiar with this topic.

There is no set answer. A full level 2 inspection needs to be done in order to check for damage and proper installation and go from there.
