Hello,

I have just moved into a house that has a CFM model HE30 gas insert fireplace (zero clearance unit). I am putting up a new mantle, and want to make sure that I am following proper code for this unit. My local dealers are of no help and I am having no luck with the vermont castings website (which I understand now owns CFM) - everything on the website leads back to 'contact your local dealer'.

What I'm looking for is 'proper mantle clearance' - I understand (from local contractors) that there is some kind of mantle width vs. depth vs. heigh over fireplace 'chart' that is specific to each model of fireplace.

Would anyone be able to help me with this information? Greatly appreciated!

BTW - I'm in Canada, not sure if that makes any difference to regulations.

The best source for that info would be your local building inspector's office. Barring that a WETT certified fireplace/stove installer.
