New wood stove inserts with catalytic converter. Are catalytic converters high maintenance? What do I need to be aware of before I buy an insert? My house is 2000 SF. It will be in the family room in a traditional tri-level. So it will easily heat the family room, dining room, and the kitchen. As they are in a straight line to each other. Will it reach the living room on the other side of the kitchen? I wonder if it will heat the upper floor where the bedrooms are? If the heat doesn't distribute throughout the house will the family room get too hot? Looking at the Regency i2500 with blower and catalytic converter. Thank you.

A drawing/sketch of the home layout would be useful.

Converters are generally not high maintenance. They need replacing every 10,000-12,000 hrs if burning. Less if mistreated.
If you have too much draft they can clog up with flyash.

Other than that, if you do what your manual says it should be okay.

Heat distribution is often a challenge. Fans on the floor at the farthest rooms pointed towards the heating appliance helps. Cold air at floor level is denser and therefore easier to move than the warm air.

Some cat stoves suck and some are very good. Some catalysts are very expensive to replace and since it’s a wear item it will need to be replaced so look into the replacement cost and ease of replacement.

Catalytic converters are like tires and brakes they require maintenance and replacement. Usually cost several hundreds for a replacement.
The higher the quality of really good seasoned wood burned the longer they last.
