Hi! We just moved into a home that already had a castle pellet stove. It was not working, the auger motor was dead. My son replaced the motor. It is working now, is heating great, but makes an extremely annoying cyclical squealing noise the entire time of operation. It may stop for a moment or so, but pretty much happens consistently the whole time you run it. Any suggestions on what to troubleshoot?

It sounds like a fan needs cleaning or a bearing needs lube if possible
or maybe replacement.

If it's cyclical, it might be the auger squealing. You can probably tell by watching/listening to see if it happens only while the augur turns. Other than that, as Johneh mentioned, one of the other two motors may need work or replacement. Pellet stoves generally have three motors, Combustion, room fan, and auger. If a couple of drops of oil on the bearings of a motor quiets it temporarily, then that motor probably needs replacing. Bearings can be replaced, but it isn't always easy. I've replaced bearings on noisy motors that I replaced and kept them as spares, so I won't have downtime in the dead of winter while waiting for replacements.

Do you have any powder graphite lubricant if so put some in the bottom of hopper. It will feed through auger and if it is the auger itself it will temporally stop the noise. Also see if you have a lot of dust/fines in the bottom of your hopper some times the fines get packed around the auger and makes noise. I had to take a dermal and buff out a burr on a auger owner had a pallet nail jam auger after that it sang every time it turned.

What kind of pellets are you using I have see hardwood pellets squeal as they go through auger. I also tried to burn cherry pits and they made a constant squeal and hollow clanking wife was not happy for the 10 days/bags.

If it does not quite it down then it is probably the auger motor itself as stated above if you put a drop of oil on motor bearings and it stops then it is the auger motor and it sounds more like motor then auger itself.
