I think it's a heatilator? Can someone provide me with the model of it? That steering wheel looking thing isn't attached to anything. I think it used to control a damper that is no longer there? Thanks for any help

It may be an old heatform style fireplace, but some can be hard to identify. The damper chain may have corroded away and need replacement.

i think this is the damper? I don't know who removed it or how or where it goes. It may have completely rusted out I have no idea. For whatever reason they didn't put a topper on the chimney
 
Yes, it's a damper, but I wonder if it was replaced with a damper cap on the chimney top or not. If you shine a light up the inside of the fireplace toward the damper area, what do you see?

There's nothing on top of the chimney it's wide open. I see daylight when I look straight up the fireplace if that's what you're asking
 
I'm not sure why the damper was pulled. Maybe the pivot blocks had corroded?
