Thanks for any help, I have a pellet stove and we have not been using our furnace. I am hoping to buy a freestanding stove for my basement to heat the basement and supplement the upstairs a little (I was able to get a bunch of firewood too).
I thought of the idea when I went to my father in laws house, he hooked a wood stove into the flue to his furnace.
My furnance, which we don't use, goes into the wall with a 10 inch hole (and then up the chimney). I was thinking of getting a free standing wood stove and disconnecting the furnace and sticking the 6 inch flue into the furnace flue and up a few feet so I can use a wood stove.
I know I could run into issues with getting a good draw of air, and I know the stove liner would be hot (it would be exposed to the open air before going into the furnace liner) but doesn anyone else think this is crazy?
thanks
