Hello,

Is anyone familiar with the insert in my picture and do you know if I can safely burn wood in it. My contractor sourced this and said it is fine to burn wood in. Since the photo we’ve installed tile in front of the fireplace and finished the surround. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Can I burn wood in this insert?

What is the make and model. As shown, with no hearth (and no doors?) is it not safe to burn. There's no hearth protection. We don't know how it was installed and whether the hearth installation meets the manual's requirements from this picture.

I can tell you up front, you cannot burn wood in this fireplace because there is no hearth. Whether it is capable of burning wood if there was a hearth is the mystery.

It doesn't look like anyone is identifying your fireplace, and I also cannot do that from the picture. Your contractor should have left you with the owner's manual, which would answer all of your questions. If he did not, then you need to reach out to him to get it. Otherwise, look everywhere inside the unit to find a label with the brand. If there is a gas burner system, please take a picture of that and post it. Sometimes the bottom panel is removable to access the burner area, where there would be a label.

Bottom line here is, you must identify the fireplace and get your hands on the owner's manual. If you can provide the make and model number from a label, I can help you.
