Picked up another 026 today. It was calling to me on CL................ A guy was selling his grandfather's 026, with the case and 2 tools and some files. It was in very nice shape except missing the air filter cover. Story was his grandfather bought it years ago to cut down 3 trees on their small city lot in Cleveland. They don't burn wood, so that was the only use it had all these years. Whether true or not, I got it for $200. He was asking $220, but I got him down $20 for the missing cover......................;).

(broken link removed to http://cleveland.craigslist.org/grd/3456230430.html)

Also doing my last "old ammo trade" deal tomorrow to pick up two 031AVs. I responded to an ad for a really nice 031AV for $175. The guy was definitly interested in an ammo trade. The guy even insisted on putting me on speaker phone while he went in the garage and started it up so I could hear how great it ran! Just love those kind of sellers don't you! Once talking, it turned out that he had another one that also ran great (we'll see tomorrow). He bought it as a future spare for his #1 saw. The best part is he wanted some of all the odd calibers left that no one else had wanted: 22 short, .32, .380, .44 mag reloads, 6.5x55, 7.62x39, 7.62x54, 8mm, and old 12 ga 2 3/4" "rifled" slugs (have some nice old Brenneke), buck/steel/lead shot. $250 for 2-031AVs, couldn't turn that down.

You might ask yourself "why would I want old 031AVs" (I love those saws)? In my sig you can see that I already have one, however after doing a fairly significant rebuild on it, I'm still not satisified with how it runs. Its ok, cut a tank full of gas with it the other day, but something is still just "not there, not quite right". I figured that now I will have a great running one to swap parts from and can isolate the issue on the other, plus a backup to sell, or for parts. Makes sense to me.

And after making unsuccessfull serious inquiries into a 056 in Michigan, and an 075 in Buffalo, I think I have the high end of the CAD disorder worked out of my system without actually having pulled the trigger on either of those. My 460 mag will rule the throne at this residence henceforth. I will actually probably end up selling a few of the smaller ones now ..................... there, I actually said it, sell some of them..................... yes, I'm cured!

Ha! There is no cure.

I wound up with a half dozen 026/260s at one time, and about a dozen in all. They are very addictive little saws, and fun to work on. Wait until you start to mod them, and they start to SCREAM! Here is the trio of 026s that I kept (no reply from another 026 seller on CL that I want).

Hahahahaha, snicker, yuk yuk yuk. Nope just in denial for a minute. teeheeheehee.

All right, you guys win, at least it lasted 1 day ;em ........................... after picking up the two 031AVs today (both 16" bars with 4 like new chains, perfect for my 3/8 converted 026s), I still had lots of ammo left over, talked to this guy about his 028 super (custom ported and such), he really likes my 380 ACP and 12 ga stuff, I'm hope'in...........!

Your the one that made that 026 Disappear that Fast!!

I should have known!!

Wanna sell it? Im coming up soon? I can bring a lil gift bag (favorite beverage, bottle, and a $200 Bill)!!!

Dammit... I.cant even.make a call or look at a posting again, without the seller saying its "Sold" or posting has been deleted by it's author. :(

You definitely have the worse case of CAD currently going around. I hope it settles soon :) (prob not)

Yea, well I'm glad that I'm far enough away from both of you to be able to beat you to a deal around here every now & then.==c A C

You mean Grampa's "like new barely used 026" missing the air filter cover...................... yeah that was me. Guy said his phone was ringing off the hook all day, he got two calls while standing with me looking it over. I thought I was really pushing it to try and get him down a few more bucks with all the calls but I did anyway, explained how hard it was going to be to find those "old" early air filter covers. ;)

I just looked and the 028 super guy (had 3 saws, 028 super, 034, 017) took his ad down too.............................. no call back yet though.

Yeah, it will settle down soon, I'm starting to get low on old ammo and I'm out of several calibers. Still have plenty of the 2 russian calibers, and 308 though! Surprised no one has been interested in those!

Can't wait to meet you :) lol..

You too Dex. You know, when I joined this group on October 31, I had two "new" operating saws (250C-BE and 440) and two old broken ones in a box (191T and 031AV). With the help of folks here, I rebuilt the two broken ones. I then picked up 7 more saws in 5 weeks. I only paid cash on one, the $200 for "Grandpa's" 026, the other 6 were by trading old ammo. Man I wish I'd bought more ammo 20-30+ years ago! The currency of the future! I've got to get my RCBS rock-chucker out of the closet and get to work!

I'm going to go hi-jack a military convoy for their ammo now. Then maybe in 30 years I'll be swimming in 441's and 261's. ==c

Yeesh :p
