After burning softwood slabs for 2 months because I didnt have enough hardwood for the winter, I finally broke down and got in my well seasoned (three years) split hardwood for my woodstove in the house that we only use in emergencies or if its 20-40 below (which happens occasionally). I have to say I notice a HUGE difference in burn times (how long I have to fill it up about 18-20 hours) and the heat output. Tremendous difference. I should have enough left to finish off the heating season. But on the eve of yet another winter storm (15+ expected here in the mountains of Maine) I may need more. Its been the snowiest winter ever here and I moved here 8 years ago.
