I am not having any issues but my curiosity has peaked. I purchased a Whitfield Quest back in the mid nineties. I burn between two and three tons a year. It put out more than enough heat!

I have never had any issues with the burn pot. I have seen many threads here where others are having to replace their burn pots due to warping, cracking, or the metal getting thin.

Why is it my burn pot which is over thirty years old shows no sign of needing replacement and others need to replace their burn pot every few years?

Yes I understand each stove is different, the design of the burn pot is different, and the quality of the metal is different.

Can anyone satisfy my curiosity?

Thanks

best I have Rick is 30 years ago they made GOOD Steel! not even 15 years ago we had cheeeeeeeap steel. ive experimented with many dif stoves and if they were old they were built with higher quality products. I have even replaced my pot in my MAXX and its only 7yrs old. wish i could answer that one;)

I'll tell you why- Whitfield burnpot design was bars across the bottom of the grate, the ultra-grate. I think that led to more even dispersion of the hot air flowing through burnpot and out the top. Airflow was good through Whitfields too, if they were kept clean. I'm an Enviro guy, but when someone said "Whitfield hot", I knew what they meant, those units worked well and for a long time. The Advantage 2T was the design for Enviro, Lopi, Quadrafire classic bay (all the classic bay window designs) all to emulate. Hard to find parts parts for WF's though, especially the Ultra-grate design burnpot, the control boards etc etc. Take care of her, a large part of WF was their marketing too, names like Quest, Prodigy, Advantage all gave a familiarity to those stoves.
