Hello,

Long time reader first time poster. This forum has been very helpful for me in the past.

I finally purchased a home that has a wood stove (1990 buckstove model 50) and the previous owner damaged the catalytic combustor. They hammered, the roof, ground the studs holding the combustor, and now the top of the stove has a large hole, so im replacing it with a locally available model 91 buckstove.

Do I need the special adapter for the chinney connector? Or can I plug and play the pipe that is here. Both are 8" flue liners. Please see images. The model 91 manual does not specify.

Is that the top of the current stove in the pic? If so you can probably use what you have there but the cast iron adapter would be more secure, and would probably seal better. The pipe would have to go into the adapter fairly straight, though; Looks like the bottom of that elbow may be angled a bit, judging from the screws. They might have added that fabricated adapter to straighten the angle out more. Or it may have been needed to reach all the way down to the stove top. Are the old stove and the 91 the same height?
I used the adapter on the 91 at my MIL's house but back then it wasn't that pricey.
