I've been lurking here for a few weeks and know I'll get some good answers from this group!
I'm building a new home in the next few months and will be installing a free standing stove. I have been checking out several on the web and doing some reading up here as well. I have considered Lopi, Jotul, PE, VC and Country Flame. Was thinking I needed a non-cat. However, my local dealer in this little west Texas town carries Buck Stoves. He did a good sales job on me today and am needing advise from those with experience with this brand and anyone who could compare it to the rest.
He is pricing me a model 91 (Cat.) new for around $2600 (no instalation or pipes). Also, a deal I'm more interested in is on one of the three 91's which he burns in his shop that he sells each spring and replaces each with new demos. Asking around $1900 for one of those.
Are these competative prices respectively for new and used?
Next for those that might persuade me in another direction here's a little about the new home.
Stove will be in the great room. Open floor plan to kitchen, about 18 ft ceilings in both. The rest of the rooms 8ft ceilings. Total 1st floor sq ft of ~2,000. Loft above bedrooms looking over great room of around ~360 sq ft. Will have a central heat/air system, but would like to use the stove for main heat source most of the winter and could use fan in system to recirculate to other rooms. Will have 6" walls and well insulated. Texas high plains where we do get some winter and snow from time to time. Although nothing like N.E. Nebraska where I was raised.
Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks.
